The Why, Where’s, and How’s of Online Dating

Endless love

By now everyone has heard of online dating, but many don’t know that is becoming much more popular, and that many singles prefer internet dating to any other type of dating, like that of meeting in bars, or the typical ‘blind date’. There are many reasons for that but mostly because there are endless possibilities online, and therefore there is a better chance of meeting ‘Prince Charming’ or the ‘Great Woman’ in your life on the internet than by walking into the grocery store, the bar, the night club, etc.

There is an endless array of reasons why you may want to date. You may not have found the right partner, or you may have just gotten out of a bad experience, you may just be graduating from college and looking for a way to meet people. The truth is that online dating suits anyone of any age. But before heading to the nearest dating site you should know of the basic guidelines for internet dating.

First you really need to plan ahead when you start your online dating experience.  You want to meet people and chat with them in the chat rooms before even starting to think about actually going on a date. You should think about what you want to get out of your internet dating experience. Do you just want to – have fun – talking to people in the chat rooms? Are you looking for a serious relationship? Are you just looking for friends and casual dates? You really need to think about these questions before you really date anyone that you have met online. After all, you don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings in the process.

Don’t rush yourself. There are thousands of people here you can meet, so there is no reason to move quickly. So keep things slow and don’t let anyone rush you into doing something you aren’t ready to do. Besides when you take things slowly you really get to enjoy meeting and making friends online.

One of the most important rules you can follow in online dating is to tell the truth. You always want to be truthful about everything, including your likes, dislikes and your appearance. You are not responsible for the actions of others when it comes to the online dating process but you are accountable for you own actions. So don’t attach someone else’s picture or even lie about anything you have done previously.

Don’t believe everything you are told while online. Just use the general rule. You know the one that says, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.  You want to check and verify the information. That is why it is so important that you get to know a person through chat before deciding to exchange personal information, or deciding to meet someone you met through online dating.

Always be polite. When you are emailing or chatting with someone you should always be polite, and try to stay away from using foul language. Just remember the saying your mother always taught you. If you can’t be nice, just don’t say anything. But above all remember that online dating should be fun, so don’t take things too seriously in the beginning. Just enjoy yourself.
